Claudia Roden was born in 1936 in Cairo, Egypt. She was schooled in Paris and moved to London to study art. She has lived in England for most of her life, and now lives in London.

She has also been a food writer and a cooking show presenter on the BBC.

Roden is a Patron of London-based HIV charity, the Food Chain'
