...conditions of use...

When completing a purchase in our online store you will be required to accept our terms & conditions of sale.  You should read them carefully.

A summary of most of these terms & conditions appears below.

If you have any queries, please contact us.

All our books are new unless stated otherwise.  If the condition of a book is described, it is second-hand or out-of-print or remaindered.  All such books are carefully & professionally cleaned & repaired prior to sale.

All hard cover dust jackets are protected with archival Multi-cover™.

The condition of our second-hand books is described as [book]/[dust jacket] using the following terms:

  • Mint - as published.
  • Fine - in almost new condition with no defects or markings & only imperceptible signs of wear.
  • Very Good (VG) - there are some small/minor signs of age or use but the book is structurally intact; small defects may have been repaired.
  • Good(G) - the effects of age & use are immediately noticeable.
  • Fair - complete & acceptable as a kitchen/reading copy but with marked signs of age & wear.

Additional terms used to describe our second-hand & antiquarian books are listed in our glossary.  We have used our best endeavours to carefully describe the condition of the [book]/[dust jacket].  Variations from the description may occur.  If in doubt, please ask.

how to buy...

Follow the prompts in our secure online store.  You can pay online or offline with your credit card, or by cheque.

We accept Visa & MasterCard only online.

If you wish to pay by cheque, we accept personal cheques, bank cheques or postal orders drawn in Australian dollars only. Cheques drawn in foreign currency will be returned.  If payment is by cheque or postal order, the books will be posted when the cheque has cleared (approx 3-5 business days).

If you are visiting us in Gertrude St,  you can also use EFTPOS or lay-by (we allow lay-by for up to 4 weeks with a 20% non-refundable deposit).

Our website displays all the titles we have catalogued over the years and is updated daily.  Items in store are available to buy; items available from their publisher or author are available to order; & those items that are out of print or second-hand are available to request. Many of our titles are in limited quanties & may be sold during our normal trading hours in store.

Price & stock availability details included in our website are provided in good faith & are indicative only.  They are subject to change without notice.

If you place an order, we will notify you by email of any changes to your order prior to completing the transaction.  All orders are placed subject to confirmation by us.  If you do not accept such changes, you can cancel your order.

exchanges & refunds...

Any book which is defective may be returned for exchange or refund if you notify us within 7 days. Refunds will only be issued via the payment method used by you.

Purchases may, at our sole discrection, be exchanged in store or returned for a credit note within a reasonable time (usually 14 days) if they are returned in original condition & with proof of purchase

Requests for exchange or credit should be made promptly & as soon as possible.

We do not issue refunds if you have changed your mind.

insurance & postage...

Postage is an additional charge.  Australian deliveries are sent tracked and insured using Australia Post eParcel.   We charge $7.50 for Victorian deliveries and $9.95 for deliveries to all other Australian states.  This is a significant discount to standard Australia Post Rates.

All books & any insurance or postage must be paid for in full prior to delivery.  Books sent via eParcel or purchased through our website are tracked & insured.  Once posted, your purchase is at your risk.  We strongly recommend insurance and/or track & trace freight options for parcels not sent by eParcel.

All books are securely & protectively wrapped & boxed before being posted.

Postage overseas can be by:

  • Air Mail - usually 5 to 7 days
  • Sea Mail - about half the cost of Air Mail but can take up to three (3) months (not available to Asia)

Courier options are also available upon request.

If your kitchen has an account with Prestige Foods International we can ship with your regular deliveries.

taxes & customs charges...

Our prices are net in Australian dollars inclusive of all local taxes.

Purchases made from & posted to an overseas destination are exempt from local taxes (i.e. less1/11th).  If you have registered as a customer & your delivery address is outside of Australia, your purchases will be tax free & the purchase price shown in checkout will reflect that.

applicable law...

The sale of books & other products through our website is subject to the laws & sole jursidiction of Victoria, Australia.
