Gabriel Gate is one of Australia's best-known chefs. Born in Anjou in the west of France, he trained as a chef in the French countryside before working at top restaurants in Paris and later London.
Gabriel met his Australian wife Angie when she was studying at the Sorbonne in Paris. They settled in Australia in the late 1970s and Gate began teaching cooking, and catering for private functions. Since then he has established himself as a leading influence on the way Australian families cook today.
Gate has presented a daily television programme on cooking, and is the author of many successful cookbooks, several of which present a nutritious and simple approach to cooking for the average busy Australian family today.
For a number of years he ran a cooking school and cookware shop in Hawthorn, Victoria.
Most recently, Gabriel has presented 'Taste Le Tour' as part of SBS's coverage of the Tour de France.
