Author
Ralph Kyte-Powell has more than 30 years' experience in the wine business and hospitality industry. His first wine job was with Seppelt during university vacation. Since then he has worked in marketing and sales for some of Australia's leading wine merchants, managed wine stores, been sommelier at some of Melbourne's best restaurants, worked in vineyards and wineries in Australia and France, and lectured on wine for a TAFE college.
He's also owned a successful small hotel, and managed a restaurant. He started writing about wine 11 years ago and has a regular column in Melbourne's Age and Sydney's Sun-Herald (Sunday Life).
He contributes to other publications including Tourism Victoria's Wine Regions of Victoria guide, writes regularly for Cuisine in New Zealand, judges at Australian regional wine shows, and at Le Concours des Vins du Victoria. A list of Ralph's favourite wines would be encyclopaedic and variable, but would always include champagne, great pinot noir, Rutherglen liqueur muscat and the best Italian sangiovese - and when it all gets too much, he loves a good beer.
