Octavo (180x120mm) green cloth boards, decorated and lettered upper board and spine in black and white, 124,[4]pp. Heavy cream laid paper. Advertisements for 'Lactopeptine' to rear endpapers and paste-down. Chapter II 'Digestion and Indigestion' recommending the use of Lactopeptine is printed on blue paper. 


Lactopeptine was a manufacturer's name for a digestion-ferment product containing Pepsin and Pancreatin and sold in the 19th century.


Alf Cooke (1842-1902) was a Yorkshire printer.  In 1885 he received a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria for colour printing.
