Octavo (195x135mm) half bound green morocco, marbled boards and endpapers, raised bands, spine in six compartments decorated with gilt flowers and lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, fore-edge untrimmed, heavy cream paid paper [10],427,[7]pp; π⁴,[1]⁸,2-17⁸. Translated by Alfred Sutro.

Binding and boards faintly rubbed; spine lightly sunned; some edge-wear; Armorial bookplate of  the Swiss descended family Wurts to the front paste down.

Maeterlinck was a Belgian symbolist poet and playwright who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1911 for his contributions to symbolist theatre. Maeterlinck was also a prolific prose essayist; The Life of the Bee is considered his most popular prose work.  Sutro (1863-1933) was a British playwright, a life-long friend of Maeterlinck and translator of Maeterlinck's works.
