(190x150mm) black cloth boards, pictorial onlay, 38 folded leaves, heavy cream hand made paper, illustrated with reproductions of a series of pen, ink and wash sketches of the Queen Victoria Market.
¶ Leti is an Italian born, Australian artist based in Melbourne. His disciplines are painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and book arts. His work can be found in national, state and regional galleries, as well as institutional collections throughout Australia.
From the foreword: "The Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne has been a regular haunt for Bruno Leti over many years; it has held a fascination for him as an artist but also for the simple pleasures of colour, activity and food (he is a good cook as well as a fine artist).... Leti said of the market " mostly I see it as a visual panorama of colours, textures and forms with hundreds of varying objects"....People do not figure noticeably [in the sketches]. Fruits, vegetables and other food items spread out at stalls are presented in a semi-abstract manner, lyrical and elegant.... The earthy pleasures of a food market are very much present even with the abstraction."
Scarce. A fine copy evoking the bustle and abundance of the heritage listed, largest open air market in the Southern hemisphere.
