BONVIN, Claude [pseud Émile-Jean-Joseph Vuillermoz (1878-1960)]

Un Art de France Le Savoir-Boire.

Marseille and Paris : Éditions La Tartane, February, 1948. In French.

Octavo (215x155mm) illustrated cream printed limp wrappers, untrimmed edges [2],258,[4]pp : [1]⁸, 2-16⁸, 174⁴.  Small closed tears to wrapper edges; rear wrapper lightly creased and soiled; page edges agetoned.

A light and engaging, series of essays on French wines, region by region written in the form of letters from an American working in France to his wife in America, explaining how he was finally learning to eat, and more particularly drink properly.  The final chapter is all about wine pairings.  The author closes with the claim that he will return home to champion drinking in the French style having been suitably educated.

Vuillermoz was a French music and literary critic who occasionally wrote under the pseudonyms Gabriel Darcy and Claude Bonvin, particularly for film.  He was appointed an Officer of the Legion of Honour for his services to music.

An excellent copy
