Michael and Pippa James are two of our favourite baking people! Together they opened the Tivoli Road Bakery in South Yarra in 2013 after a number of years in the best restaurants around Melbourne. Dedicated to supporting local farmers, growers and artisanal food producers, Tivoli Road was an instant success and cult bakery cafe.

After garnering a loyal following for their bakery in Melbourne and beyond, Michael and Pippa sold the bakery to co-found GrAiNZ, committed to building a healthy and thriving local grain economy. Continuing in this vein, in between consulting to bakers and cafes and teaching bakery skills, their new venture, Urbanstead, aims to create a more just and sustainable food system through education and community building.

Their acclaimed first book, The Tivoli Road Baker, was published in 2017. Their follow-up book of savoury bakes, All Day Baking: Savoury Not Sweet, was published in 2021. It was selected for the Jamie Oliver Cookbook Club book of the month in May 2022.

To our delight, Michael and Pippa return this September with Sweet Seasons: wholesome treats for every occasion, a bakery and sweet cookbook. We expect this to be one of our best sellers this year.

Here Michael and Pippa embrace the sustainable side of sweets by using seasonal fruits, alternative sugars, wholegrains and other flours. There are more than 80 fail-proof recipes for those traditional favourites they are well known for, such as hot cross buns, mince pies, and other festive fare, together with a range of classic bakes including custard tarts, sponge cake, chocolate chip cookies and other delicious treats.

We were very proud to launch their first two books (which are favourites on our bookshelves at home) and rather chuffed to be launching their new book as well.

As usual we will be baking from the book and serving up tastes.

Please join us on Tuesday 10th September for a wonderful intimate conversation with 'star bakers' Michael and Pippa James.

Tickets are limited.
