St John Melbourne: the book event
Monday, Mar 24, 2025 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Location:
Books for Cooks
115-121 Victoria St, Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne VIC 3000
Founded by Trevor Gulliver and Fergus Henderson in 1994, St John is perhaps the most influential British restaurant in the last thirty years.
It is at once, a shrine and a pilgrimage destination for two generations of chefs and diners alike; a design icon for its emphasis on simplicity, and its stripped back, whitewash interior; and a rigourous champion of nose to tail eating particularly known for its signature dish of Roast Bone Marrow and Parsley Salad.
This month, St John will be in Melbourne with a pop-up at Ian Curley's French Saloon as part of the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival.
Trevor Gulliver and Head Chef Farokh Talati will be taking an evening out of their busy schedule in Melbourne to chat with us about their most recent books The Book of St John by Trevor and Fergus and Parsi: from Persia to Bombay by Farokh.
These are two books we love and we think you will too. But don't just take our word for it...
The Book of St John...
'... is too witty to be a manifesto, but it is a sturdy invocation of the need for comfort, generosity and ritual at the table. And it is a gurglingly delightful compendium of - quite simply - delicious ideas and stories' Nigella Lawson
'An unutterable joy from the team behind one of the most influential and important restaurants in Britain ... This is much more than a book of recipes, though (glorious as they are). It's also about the importance of the table, of feasting, of friendship, of the white cloth napkin on your knee. And it sings of simple but wonderful pleasures- a bacon sandwich and a glass of cider, a doughnut and a glass of champagne.'
Diana Henry, The Telegraph
'..., part food gospel, part memoir, part recipe book.'
Observer Food Monthly
And Parsi...
' I'm just bowled over by this book. It's as fascinating as it is beautiful, and full of food I'm desperate to eat!' NIGELLA LAWSON
'The one and only book you will ever need on Parsi cooking' ANGELA HARTNETT
We are very much looking forward to hosting Trevor and Farokh and exploring the magic behind St John.
Please join us on Monday 24th March for a wonderful intimate discussion and insight into one of the world's great restaurants. As usual tastes from the books will be served.
Tickets are limited.
