Danielle Alvarez burst onto the Australian food scene in 2016 when she headed up the kitchen at Sydney's groundbreaking and award winning restaurant Fred's. Informed by her family background (Cuban/American) and the Californian kitchens she worked in (including Alice Water's Chez Panisse), Danielle's cooking is seasonal and ingredient driven... and delicious!

We loved her best-selling first book Always Add Lemon and a copy is often on the kitchen bench. And we are already in love with her new book!

In 2022 Danielle left Freds and turned to her home kitchen, where she has relished rediscovering home cooking flavours and how exceptional they can be – often better than in a restaurant – as well as the particular skills needed to coax them out, and now sharing them with her readers. Full of thoughtful recipes, wisdom, and whimsy, Recipes for a Lifetime of Beautiful Cooking provides the foundation for a lifetime of joy and nourishment in the kitchen, at the table, and with family.

Every idea – from easy weeknight meals such as a Zucchini frittata or a hearty Cavolo nero and anchovy risotto, to more elaborate weekend projects like Bolognese with homemade Tagliatelle or a Sweet and sour cumin lamb shoulder, to gorgeous desserts such as Plum galette with a fennel crème anglaise – will inspire.

FAQs

I can't attend an event, can I buy/pre-order a signed copy of the book?

Yes. Copies will be available for signing and purchase on the night. If you can't attend, we can organise to post signed and personalised copies to you.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

If you haven't been to one of our events for a while, please note we have moved to the northern side of the Queen Victoria Market. Our new address is 115-121 Victoria Street (next to A Shed)

The 19, 20, 57 (Elizabeth St)and 55 (William & Peel St) trams go past the Queen Victoria Market and run frequently. We are in the Free Tram Zone and are a short 50m walk from the Elizabeth St Queen Victoria Market stop and the Peel St Queen Victoria Market stop. Melbourne Central and Flagstaff railway stations are two blocks away.

If driving, there is plenty of metered parking on Queen St near the corner of Victoria St. There is also limited parking on Victoria Street outside the store.
