115-121 Victoria St, Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne
Our guest, Amber Guinness is an English cook and food writer who lives in Florence, Italy. She was born in London but raised at Arniano, the Tuscan farmhouse her parents restored near Siena. Amber's first book, A House Party in Tuscany, featured recipes and stories from her internationally acclaimed residential painting school at Arniano. Italian Coastal to be published in April is her second book.
Italian Coastal is an exploration and celebration of the Western coast of Italy stretching from Tuscany to Sicily, the Tyrrhenian Sea, is a mixture of famous locations such as the Amalfi Coast and secret destinations like the Maremma. The coast line is a home to la dolce vita, sun-drenched islands and seaside towns where even the simplest trattoria has an effortless glamour.
Chapter by chapter, Amber weaves history and flavours with her personal stories and delicious dishes whilst exploring the Tuscan coast down through Lazio and Campania via Naples and the Amalfi Coast and on to northern Sicily.
This is a beautiful, but hardly whimsical book. Amber has a first class Masters degree in History and Italian from the University of Edinburgh, and has worked as a cook in both London and Italy. Rich with her experience, and stunning landscape photography, Italian Coastal is a lovely book to read and to cook from.
Think simple, delicious seasonal Italian coastal cuisine perfect for family or entertaining. We are already keen to try a number of the recipes; anyone for crostini with ricotta and‘nduja, zucchini and mint lasagne; tomato linguine with capers; sea bass with pistachio and almonds; Neapolitan vinegary fried zucchini; potato and caper salad from Salina; raspberry tiramisu; the Calamata pasta with aubergine, olives, pecorino romano and almonds photographed below or maybe just a prosecco, limoncello and basil spritz?
As usual we will be cooking from the book and serving up tastes. This will be a wonderful event
Please join us on Tuesday 9th April for yet another wonderful conversation this time with Amber Guinness exploring the foods of the Tyrrhenian Sea coast.
Tickets are limited.
